Learning How To Raise Rabbits as pets or raising them for meat can be a fun and interesting experience. My sister and I grew up with rabbits and we learned by trial and error how to take care of rabbits, raise them, feed them properly, and breed them to have more baby rabbits so that other children could enjoy them as well! And, yes they are so cute and so much fun especially when there are baby bunnies :)
However, the thing is this! Looking back at it all, there really is something I wish we would have done from the beginning because it may seem like an easy thing to raise a rabbit (and it is) but, my sister and I did make a few mistakes along the way. And, sometimes it was really sad and so I hope you can avoid some of
the mistakes that we made.
I suggest getting a book to help you with all of the needs of raising, or breeding a rabbit because it can save you and most importantly your children a lot of heartache! Take a look at this book, it'll be handy when you are raising your rabbit(s) because it will show you all of the do's and don'ts for rabbits.
For example, the book will suggest that you feed your rabbits pellets from the store but, did you know that you can feed your rabbit oats? And, oats are really healthy for your rabbit because they are a natural food source and pellets are a bit odorous and probably have some kind of preservative in them.
We used to purchase oats in a 40lbs burlap bag from a mill. Nowadays, most people do not have access to a mill and so I am in the process of locating a source for you just in case you are interested in feeding oats to your rabbits (especially if you plan on keeping your rabbits for meat).
Hey, did you by chance read my article about rabbits that I wrote and submitted to Ezine Articles? The title is Rabbits Make Great Pets - How to Raise Rabbits In Your Backyard. You might have read it already. But, if you haven't check out my article.
